Written for the1950
film Captain Carey, Mona Lisa won the first
oscar for music in a non-musical film. It was offered
to Nat King Cole who was reluctant to record it at first and
it was eventually released as a B side. In spite of Nat
King Cole's reluctance over the song, it achieved immense popularity
and remains an enduring favourite. Nine years later, Conway
Twitty produced an up-beat version. Mona Lisa
had a new lease of life and Conway Twitty had a big hit on his
hands. It is this later version which Peter Doyle performed
along with John Cartwright in the 1990's and was included on
the recent Rarities CD.
From the Rarities
liner notes: This is one of two songs on the CD recorded
in 1990 as demos for Peter's duo days with John Cartwright.
First as The Phantoms , then a name change to The Leo
Brothers. The backing track was recorded at John's studio
at home, and the vocal and guitar work by Peter at Gisborne.

SEEKERS
Around 40 years after
Eleanor Farjeon's hymn was first published, Cat Stevens scored
an international hit in 1972 with his arrangement. Set
to a Gaelic melody, Morning Has Broken has proved an
enduring favourite as both a hymn and a pop song.
Eve Graham sings the lead on the New Seekers version.

From the Rarities
liner notes: This was written by John twelve months before
Peter died. At the time Peter was putting a band together
to record an album of his favourite songs. He loved this
song and included it in the selection, but unfortunately he
became too ill, and the project had to be canceled. This
is John's demo.
Composer:
John Cartwright, long time friend and colleague of Peter Doyle,
John continues to work to keep Peter's memory alive through
his music whilst keeping busy with his own career playing mostly
with other performers whose careers started back in the 50s
and 60s.
